Ashwin Karkala Hegde is a Senior Vice President of Engineering at Cyware with over two decades of experience in IT Enterprise and Cloud product development. He is a published author and inventor with expertise in using design thinking to build products in the cloud. Ashwin specializes in building products for public cloud using microservices-based architecture using technologies such as Kafka, ZK, HDFS, Docker, and Kubernetes. As a management expert, Ashwin uses a design thinking approach to engineering problems and leads globally distributed development teams. He is responsible for hiring, managing, and motivating engineering teams to their full potential. Ashwin works with product management to drive future direction and roadmap and also works with customers on technical issues. He has expertise in campus hiring from some of the leading colleges in India. Currently, Ashwin is the Senior Vice President of Engineering at Cyware, where he is an energetic and innovative Engineering leader. He focuses on creating a culture and environment based on trust and empathy wherein teams can remain motivated towards achieving the set business outcomes. Prior to this, he served as the Vice President of Engineering at Cyware, where he was responsible for the global engineering and DevOps organization ensuring smooth delivery of products and services to global customers and partners. Ashwin brought in a process-oriented culture within the organization and relevant engineering practices to help the company achieve SOC2 and other ISO certifications. He also partnered with all the other organizations effectively to engage with the engineering organization. Before joining Cyware, Ashwin served as the Director of Engineering at VMware, where he managed and grew the Horizon Enterprise Global Product Engineering team. He focused on building products and features in support of the move from Perpetual to SaaS based licensing. Ashwin institutionalized deep quality and process focus within the teams under him and turned around the product from one that had recalls to one where every release was of very high quality with significantly higher customer satisfaction and higher NPS. He also focused on hiring for the BU level within India and mentored, grew careers, and internal mobility of top talent within the group. Ashwin holds a B.E. degree from the University of Mysore and completed his high school education from S.A.M.S. He is a Senior Software Engineer with relevant experience of 23.71 years and has expertise in HDFS, DevOps, product management, Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka, and Microservices.
